Commitment Days: discover what our teams do to fight against plastic pollution around the world

Crédit Agricole CIB took part in Crédit Agricole Group's Commitment Days to fight against plastic pollution with various initiatives in Paris, Hong Kong, London, Mumbai, New York and Tokyo.

Crédit Agricole Group held its very first Commitment Days from June 26 to July 3rd with a focus on the environment, climate issues and the fight against plastic. The event started on June 26 with a presentation of the Group’s societal commitments set out in the new 2022 Medium-Term Plan Will open in a new tab

Crédit Agricole CIB took part in the various activities organised in Paris and also set up actions in Hong Kong, London, Mumbai, New York and Tokyo. Discover each of them below and have a look at some of the pictures at the end of the article!


From June 28 to July 18, Group employees are competing against each other in a plogging challenge! Plogging is a concept that originated in Sweden which combines jogging (or walking) and picking up litter. The competition’s goal is for staff members to clock up a maximum of kilometers and pick up as much litter as possible.

On June 28, about forty Group employees joined a collective initiative to clean up the banks of the Seine with Organe de Sauvetage Ecologique organization. Together, they cleared a little over one ton of waste and filled 150 bags with trash!

On July 2nd, François Lambert, President of the Expéditions 7e Continent Will open in a new tab organisation, shared an overview of this issue and presented the research and actions taking shape around the world.


Crédit Agricole CIB Hong Kong took steps ahead of time with a sharing session at the end of May on the subject of zero waste, featuring zeo-waste specialist Fanny Moritz Will open in a new tab . Fanny shared her insights and tips towards Zero Waste lifestyle, including the 5R rules (Reduce, Refuse, Reuse, Recycle, and Remove), common misconceptions on wastage and reusable alternatives.


Since July 1st, Crédit Agricole CIB London’s cafeteria replaced all plastic cutlery and polystyrene take away boxes with a more environmentally friendly alternative. Plastic cutlery will also be replaced in all vending areas around this time. A stand will be set up providing information to raise staff awareness around waste and single-use plastics.

On July 3rd, the Marine Conservation Society Will open in a new tab held a conference entitled “Single use plastic – A challenge” to discuss the impact of plastic pollution on the maritime environment.


Crédit Agricole CIB India was earlier using pre-packed plastic mineral water bottles for their staff consumption. To reduce our plastic footprint and to do away with disposable, single-use plastic bottles, employees were given reusable Tupperware water bottles to be refilled at a central water fountain. Tupperware plastic is hi-grade, BPA free and is widely used in India as an environmentally responsible option.


Crédit Agricole CIB New York has made the change to biodegradable utensils and takeaway boxes in its cafeteria earlier this year. Staff members were also provided information on plastic pollution throughout the Commitment Days as well as awareness facts being posted up on the video screens in their cafeteria. In addition, our New York office gifts reusable water bottles to all newcomers so they are encouraged to refill bottles instead of buying plastic ones. 

Crédit Agricole CIB New York posted a series of articles on the local Intranet portal in correlation with the Commitment Days. The first article highlighted our support of NGO Parley Will open in a new tab , which addresses environmental threats towards the ocean, the second provided useful facts and figures on sustainability and climate change, and the third challenged employees to take action by outlining tips to incorporate into their everyday routine to help eliminate waste. 


Crédit Agricole CIB Japan is taking part in the Group’s Commitment Days throughout the summer with an anti-plastic innovation challenge. Staff members will have to come up with concrete solutions to reduce plastic usage and waste within the office. The best idea(s) will then be developed and implemented!
