Taiwanese tech giant Hon Hai (Foxconn) taps euro market for first time, in a landmark transaction for both the company and Taiwan's capital markets.

Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., the world's largest electronics contract manufacturer better known globally as Foxconn, has successfully completed its inaugural euro-denominated bond offering, raising €650 million on 21 October, with Crédit Agricole CIB acting as a Bookrunner.

About Hon Hai (Foxconn)

Operating primarily from vast facilities across Asia, the company is specialised in assembling a wide range of consumer electronics like smartphones and computers, and serves as Apple's primary contract manufacturer, assembling most of their products including the iPhone. As a sophisticated and experienced issuer in the offshore USD bond market, Hon Hai decided to tap the EUR bond market, taking advantage of the current favorable market conditions, to diversify its funding channel, and expand its foreign investor base.

The proceeds from this transaction will support multiple corporate objectives, including financing capital expenditures and injection, refinancing existing debt obligations, and other investments.

Market Milestones

This transaction achieved several significant "firsts" in the capital markets:

  • First ever public EUR bond deal in Taiwan
  • First ever public EUR bond by Hon Hai

These milestones underscore the evolving sophistication of Taiwanese corporates in accessing international capital markets. It also demonstrates the growing appetite among European investors for high-quality Asian corporate credits as well as investor confidence in Taiwan's technology sector and the resilience of global supply chain leaders despite ongoing geopolitical and economic uncertainties.

"This transaction marks a first-of-its-kind EUR bond issuance in the Taiwan market, representing a significant milestone for Crédit Agricole CIB Taiwan. Hon Hai's successful euro bond debut may pave the way for other Taiwanese corporates to explore European debt markets, potentially opening a new funding avenue for the island's major enterprises."
