Crédit Agricole CIB supports Generadora Metropolitana in raising USD 619 million for a landmark solar and battery storage project in Chile
We are pleased to announce that we have supported Generadora Metropolitana (“GM Group”) in securing a USD 619 million financing package for the construction of one of Chile’s largest renewable energy projects to date. Located in the Antofagasta region, the project combines 509 MW of battery energy storage (BESS) with 162 MWp of photovoltaic capacity, and will supply a 15-year, 1,000 GWh per year PPA to Codelco, Chile’s state-owned copper producer.
GM Group, jointly owned by EDF and AME, is Chile’s fifth-largest power generator and an important long-standing client of Crédit Agricole CIB. The company operates a diversified fleet of conventional and renewable assets and is developing more than 3.7 GW of new generation capacity and 10 GWh of BESS assets. This milestone project strengthens GM Group’s role as a major contributor to Chile’s clean energy transition and energy security.
We acted as Financial Advisor, Joint Bookrunner, Hedge Coordinator, Administrative Agent and PCG Execution Agent, providing an integrated financing solution adapted to the project’s innovative technical and commercial structure.
