Crédit Agricole CIB joins forces to advance cancer research
Crédit Agricole CIB is taking part in a Crédit Agricole Group-wide initiative, contributing €75,000 towards the development of UCPVax, a promising therapeutic cancer vaccine.
Crédit Agricole Group is mobilising to support the development of UCPVax, a therapeutic vaccine designed for cancer patients. Among the 16 Group entities involved in this initiative, Crédit Agricole CIB is contributing €75,000 through its Endowment Fund (Fonds de Dotation, FDD).
UCPVax: a promising French innovation
Developed by Besançon University Hospital (CHU de Besançon Franche-Comté) and Marie and Louis Pasteur University, UCPVax is a therapeutic vaccine designed to stimulate the immune defences of cancer patients, helping them recognise and fight cancer cells.
Its approach focuses on telomerase, an enzyme present in the vast majority of cancers. Initial clinical results are encouraging: 80% of patients treated develop an immune response following vaccination. Promising results have also been observed in several types of cancer, including lung cancer, glioblastoma and human papillomavirus (HPV)-related cancers. These findings will need to be confirmed through further clinical trials.
A collective effort across the Group
In response to this major public health challenge, Crédit Agricole Group is providing a total of €1.5 million to support the clinical development of UCPVax. The initiative brings together 16 Group entities, including Crédit Agricole CIB, which is contributing €75,000 through its Endowment Fund.
The Group’s funding will notably help produce the active ingredient required to manufacture the vaccine and enable its clinical development to continue. Further trials will be conducted to confirm its efficacy on a larger scale and, ultimately, to pave the way for a potential marketing authorisation in Europe.
Turning innovation into hope for patients
On 20 October, the official launch of the project at the Maison de la Chimie in Paris marked an important milestone in this collective effort. Crédit Agricole was presented as UCPVax’s first private-sector patron.
By taking part in this initiative, Crédit Agricole CIB is contributing to a collective effort that reflects its commitment to serving the public interest: supporting French research and backing innovations with the potential to advance the fight against cancer.
