In 2022, digital infrastructure saw a record number of fiber deals with a number of them ranging in size from EUR3bn – EUR7bn, and with an estimated EUR30bn of fiber debt raised in the market. To answer those questions, the Bank published a Roundtable article on financing fiber, titled: “Digital infrastructure: Financing fibre in Europe and beyond” in collaboration with GlobalCapital. Pauline Fiastre (Infravia), Fabrice Garus and Steve Ledoux (Vauban), Gilles Lengaigne (Infranity), Stephanie Passet (BNP Paribas AM) and Bert Schoen (AXA IM), clients of Crédit Agricole CIB, shared their views with Thibault Rosset, Toby Walker and David Maisant (Crédit Agricole CIB). However, this raises a number of questions. Can the market continue to close transactions of this size? What level of capex is needed to fully transform networks to fibre across Europe? Do we think the debt and equity investors have the appetite to keep backing this part of the market?
