Crédit Agricole CIB acted as Mandated Lead Arranger for Zenobē Energy in the financing of Eccles, a 400MW/800MWh Battery Energy Storage System
Zenobe’s innovative use of grid battery storage assets addresses the challenges of the rise in non-synchronous generation on power grid systems by providing balancing supply and demand services, power stability, inertia, and short circuit level services.
Crédit Agricole CIB successfully supported the financial close on the financing of Eccles, a 400MW/800MWh Battery Energy Storage System (“BESS”) asset developed by Zenobē, with KKR and Infracapital as joint majority shareholders, in Scotland, UK.
Zenobē is a leading owner and operator of battery storage in the UK, with c. 735MW of grid-connected batteries live or under contract, and the aim to deliver 1.2GW worth of battery storage projects by 2026.
This transaction underlines the Bank’s commitment to the energy sector in its entirety, including grid-balancing assets playing a crucial role in ensuring a stable and resilient power network, by supporting a leading developer with recognised technical and operational expertise in the fast-evolving UK BESS market. The transaction also shows the Bank’s commitment to sustainability and the transition to clean energy.
As the energy transition accelerates, flexible grid storage solutions have become essential to balance supply and demand and provide power stability services, increasingly needed alongside the integration of intermittent renewable energy. By easing grid congestion and reducing the need for grid upgrades, battery storage facilitates a reliable and affordable electricity network, which ultimately contributes to lowering household energy bills.
We are proud to support Zenobe in delivering this strategic battery storage project in the UK, a testament to Crédit Agricole CIB’s commitment to financing innovative solutions that enhance grid stability and drive the transition to a low-carbon future. This transaction further strengthens our footprint across the energy sector, including grid-balancing assets, which are essential for a sustainable energy transition.

The successful closing of the Eccles project financing reflects Zenobe’s expertise in developing well-structured and contractually robust battery storage assets, as well as the market’s strong appetite for such projects. This transaction demonstrates our continued support for Zenobe’s sponsors, KKR and Infracapital, as well as Crédit Agricole CIB’s position as a key banking partner in the expanding BESS sector and in Energy Transition more broadly.
