First euro-denominated bond issue this year for the World Bank
On May 11, 2009, the World Bank launched its first euro-denominated bond issue this year, for EUR 3 billion maturing in May 2019. Calyon was bookrunner for the deal, alongside Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank. It took only two hours for the entire issue to be subscribed by over 200 clients, mainly European (77%) and also including pension funds, insurance companies, fund managers and others.
The World Bank formerly relied almost exclusively on the U.S. market for its financing, but decided to diversify its sources of financing by entering the European market, where investors have shown an appetite for 10-year issues.
This high-profile deal confirms Calyon’s leadership position in the euro bond market.
