Calyon managed a bond issue for EDF for the fifth time in two years
On September 8, Calyon acted as the bookrunner for a EUR 2.5 billion bond issue on behalf of EDF.
The issue has a coupon of 4.625% and matures in 15 years. It is the largest-ever bond issue for a corporate client with such a maturity since the creation of the euro market.
The order book totaled more than EUR 11 billion, and the transaction was entirely subscribed by institutional investors.
Since January 2008, EDF has carried out six euro-denominated bond issues, five of which have been managed by Calyon. The proceeds have been used to finance the company’s latest acquisitions, including British Energy, the British nuclear power plant operator, at the end of 2008.
This new deal is a witness to EDF’s recognition of Calyon’s support in the area of financing.
EDF is a leading energy group in Europe: it is present across the board in electricity, from production to trading, and is increasingly active in the gas sector in Europe. The main supplier of electricity in France, it also has solid operations in the United Kingdom, Germany and Italy.
“This fifth participation for Calyon confirms our place as one of EDF’s inner circle of banks. It also rewards the bond market expertise of Calyon’s staff”, comments Claire Mahou, Senior Banker.
