Interview with François, 29, Risk IT Analysis, IT Project Manager - Electrical engineering degree and ESIEE Management degree
What is your assignment at Crédit Agricole CIB?

I joined Crédit Agricole CIB as a consultant in 2006 and I am now a Project Manager in the IT Risk Analysis cell. I collect risk data on all Crédit Agricole CIB international entities. I’m concerned with all data that may involve counterparty risk, including loans, guarantees and authorisations.
For example, when we set up a trading platform with a partner company’s subsidiary, our objective is to gather the data, suggest technical solutions to the users, quantify the problem and set a timetable for implementation in coordination with the developers.

Why did you choose Crédit Agricole CIB?

My interest in market finance and Crédit Agricole SA’s reputation for working methodology, procedures and tools naturally attracted me to apply to this Corporate and Investment Bank.

What in particular stands out for you about Crédit Agricole CIB?

My current assignment has brought me into contact with an extremely varied group of people, from risk controllers to back-office personnel, at all of Crédit Agricole CIB’s international locations in Asia, London, New York and elsewhere.
Since 2009, we have even managed a testing team in Singapore for our non-regression tests. The technical English spoken in finance is my everyday language of communication.
For me, the international aspects are most representative of Crédit Agricole CIB.

What qualities does your job require?

Because I interact with such a rich variety of people, I have the opportunity to work on very different problems. It is necessary to have good knowledge of financial products and a solid understanding of the Bank’s operating principles. Listening skills, curiosity and self-discipline are also important assets, especially in setting priorities for our users.

Capital Markets Operations ensures the treatment of all market operations

Capital Markets Operations (CMO) combines all the operational functions of back and middle office processing and the control of capital markets transactions. Its mission is to ensure the processing of all capital markets transactions during their entire life cycle under the best possible conditions of quality, security and timeframes. To strengthen the securitisation of transactions and streamline its systems, CMO will recruit 85 new employees in 2011 including 40 in France and 45 abroad (London, New York and Singapore).

Interview with Frédéric Coudreau, Head of Capital Markets Operations

What is at stake with this hiring campaign for Capital Markets Operations?

Our first objective is to round out the Capital Markets Operations organisation by bringing certain areas of expertise such as project management, staff management, or specific business lines knowledge. This campaign is also the occasion of reinforcing our international expertise in all the Bank’s locations and setting up an incubator for future intermediary management.

What profiles are you looking for?

First of all young people – either those leaving school or with experience as an intern or VIE - or with a first work experience. We are also looking for more experienced people either in project management, team leadership or process analysis. People with good knowledge of the business lines on which we are building have good profiles as well.

In terms of the qualities, we seek a large capacity for openness, for questioning processes and work habits. An international opening is important as well: half of staff recruiting will be abroad. These jobs require the ability to work on a cross-divisional basis as they offer interaction with all the Bank’s support functions and day-to-day dialogue with many different people.

What will be the opportunities for advancement?

Above all, CMO offers a broad array of functions ranging from project supervision to process analysis and staff management. There is also the possibility of carrying out an analogous function in another business line, like Fixed Income Markets or Global Equity & Fund Derivatives. Beyond CMO, the acquired expertise (business, project management, operational risk analysis) will allow to develop in other support functions like finance, risks or compliance.

Referentials & Banking Operations ensures the processing of the commercial bank's financing transactions and manages the operational reference systems

The Referentials & Banking Operations (RBO) division manages the Bank’s operational reference systems and ensures the middle and back office processing of the commercial bank’s financing transactions. To deal with the strengthening of regulatory controls and the development of its businesses, RBO is recruiting new employees in France and abroad.

Interview with Priscille, responsible for writing international guarantees - Referentials & Banking Operations (RBO); she holds a "Licence" degree in applied languages (LEA, English-German) with a concentration in international trade; Priscille then completed her studies with a Masters in International Trade from the Université Paris-Est Créteil Val-de-Marne.

Which position do you currently hold and what are your missions?

I work at writing international guarantees with the EBONIProject of centralisation of the European back offices in Paris team. My post involves issuing guarantees for the Crédit Agricole CIB branch in Germany. My specific duties entail managing accounts, commission claims and fund collection. I also interface with other Crédit Agricole CIB branches as well as with various banks throughout the world focusing on the issuance of indirect guarantees.

Why did you choose this position with Crédit Agricole CIB?

Upon completion of my end-of-studies internship with Crédit Agricole CIB in the Transaction and Commercial Banking division, I joined the EBONI RBO team. This opportunity felt right for me straight away since I was interested in working within a multicultural environment. This facet was very important to my choice after language studies in German and a Masters in International Trade.

At the present time, what do you enjoy about your missions?

My position was created to facilitate integrating the German branch into the organisation, so I'm closely connected with setting up the activity. Every day, I track the latest evolution in the EBONI project, which is really starting to take shape. With seven members plus an apprentice, my team is quite young and energetic.
Moreover, I get to use French and English as much as German in my work. My missions have transitioned extremely well with my studies.

Interview with Virginie, responsible for writing structured credit products - Referentials & Banking Operations (RBO); she holds a BTS degree in Banking and a "Licence" in economics with a speciality in mathematics.

Which position do you currently hold and what are your missions?

I've been writing structured credit products for a year and a half within the RBO business line. My team manages the credits awarded by Crédit Agricole’s Regional Banks of to local authorities. From a practical perspective, the task consists of inputting these structured credit products into our tool, in accordance with conditions negotiated in the Front Office. It's a very rewarding process and we're learning many things about a whole array of products, rate differentials and so forth. I'm also actively participating in the project to automate these activities. We're actually developing a tool able, for example, to automate the management of interest periodicity. I'm not focused on any of the technical aspects but am able to contribute my field experience. It thrills me to be involved in such a project.

What do you enjoy about your missions?

In addition to our respective tasks, each of us has been assigned a mission to manage teamwork and, in so doing, we've all taken on greater responsibilities. My evolution has been pretty fast since the time I was hired to fill the post. In the beginning, I was working exclusively on the data entry phase, then other tasks were assigned. Today, I'm also heavily involved in the automation project.

How does this job fit in with the continuity of your career in the Crédit Agricole group?

I've been a member of the Crédit Agricole group for 12 years. I began with a program alternating classroom instruction and on-the-job training at a Crédit Lyonnais office in 1999, then built up my own client portfolio. My next move took me to the Treasury functions with Crédit Agricole CIB. I worked on "Rate SwapDerivative transaction in which two counterparties agree to exchange the cash flows linked to the performance of two underlyings, for example one interest rate versus another (Interest Rate Swap) or one currency versus the other. Derivatives" in the Back Office, before tackling the "Credit DefaultA Credit Default Swap (CDS) is a contract under which a protection seller commits, against the payment of a premium, in the case of a credit event affecting the solvency of a reference entity, to compensate the protection buyer. Swaps". My current missions with RBO mesh well with my career path. The various positions I have held since entering the Group have equipped me with a broad vision of banking business lines, in particular everything related to setting up Treasury instruments.
I've progressed very quickly and have always been given the chance to work on new assignments; this kind of motivation has taught me a great deal.

The architect's job requires an ability to take an overall view of the information system from a technical perspective, but also requires a good understanding of its functional aspects to respond to the constraints that these aspects might imply. The job is interesting because you take part in improving the information system in its entirety and not just within a confined scope.
