Crédit Agricole CIB cuts its CO2 emissions

In France, Crédit Agricole CIB has adopted a Corporate Travel Plan whose objective is to reduce transport-related CO2 emissions by 15% in three years.

To reach this goal several steps have been taken:

  • A travel policy that is already in place will be maintained: the use of trains for trips lasting less than three hours, second class for air travel of less than two hours, and restrictions in the use of taxis from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at train stations, airports and for destinations other than Paris. An application will make it possible to pool taxis for trips to train stations and airports and videoconferencing will be encouraged for communications and training.
  • Crédit Agricole CIB’s fleet of cars will have its average emissions cut by 20% over five years by imposing a digressive ceiling on vehicles’ CO2 emissions when they are replaced beginning in 2010.
  • Car pooling will be encouraged with parking places reserved for people who car pool.

Together these measures will enable cutting Crédit Agricole CIB’s CO2 emissions by more than 3,000 tons per year, i.e. more than 12% of its carbon emissions.

The Corporate Travel Plan is being implemented in parallel to initiatives in other countries. In London, the cycle-to-work program encourages commuting from home to work by bicycle. In Italy steps have been taken to limit the CO2 emissions of company cars.
