Crédit Agricole CIB and CA Cheuvreux organise a Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) round table discussion

On 2nd December 2010, more than 70 clients of Crédit Agricole CIB and CA Cheuvreux attended this conference on the theme: "Socially responsible bond issues".

The exchanges between the speakers and the audience were lively, with the latter mostly made up of Paris-based SRI investors but also including several foreign investors and a few large sovereign issuers.

The European Investment Bank and the World Bank reiterated their strong support for green bond issues, and several institutional investors (Aviva, Nikko, Natixis Asset Management, Triodos and ERAFP) explained the conditions for the development of this market. The interest in green bonds (or those including extra-financial covenants) beyond supranational issuers was also thoroughly discussed.

Danone thus presented its interest in this market and exposed the progress it had made in the area; meanwhile the UK boutique Social Finance described its “Social Bond” program.

This conference came at a key point in time when SRI assets under management in Europe have reached EUR 5,000 billion and when, as reiterated by Jean-Paul Betbèze, Chief economist and Head of the Crédit Agricole S.A. Economic Research Department, the requirements for heightened transparency will be extended to the heart of Fixed Income investment management.
