Conference series 2009 for interns and work-study students at Calyon
The 2009 conference series was opened on January 11 by Michel Fleuriet, former manager of French structures at HSBC and Merrill Lynch and a professor at the Wharton School. He created the master’s degree program in Investment Banking and Capital Markets at the Université Paris IX Dauphine. He shared with the participants his professional and academic view of the crisis.
On May 13, Calyon hosted Nicole El Karoui, Vice-Chair of the Department of Mathematics at the Ecole Polytechnique and head of the master’s degree program in Probability and Finance at the Université Paris VI Pierre et Marie Curie. Ms El Karoui addressed nearly 200 young Calyon interns and work-study students. The day’s theme was: Mathematics of Finance and the crisis: too many models, or too few?

Calyon holds quarterly conferences for its interns and work-study students. As they discover their professional environment, those conferences offer them useful insights and topics for discussion on the events of recent months. The invited speakers are professors and directors of master’s degree programs at the schools on which Calyon has focused its partnership efforts for several years.
The next conference, to take place in September, will focus on macroeconomic analysis and Calyon strategic business lines.
