"The treasurer function requires both technical skills and sales sensitivity"
Testimony of François Reboul, Treasurer EMEA region
Why did you decide to join Calyon?
I wanted to join one of the main capital markets and investment banks in Europe with a highly developed international network. Calyon gave me the chance to exercise different responsibilities within its Fixed Income Markets business lines in Paris, London and Johannesburg.
Can you describe your daily activity?
In my position as regional treasurer for the EMEAEurope, the Middle East and Africa region, I am responsible for monitoring liquidity and interest rate risk for ten local treasuries. Liquidity management is articulated around five liquidity centers (Paris, London, New York, Hong Kong and Tokyo). It requires constant dialogue with both regional and local treasurers.
What are the qualities and skills needed to perform your function?
The treasurer function requires technical skills (management of liquidity and interest rate risk) and good knowledge of the bank’s business lines and the refinancing issues they face. Lastly, sales sensitivity is needed to understand our clients’ needs while securing access to Calyon’s liquidity.
Which of Calyon's characteristics would you stress?
The 2007/2008 financial crisis considerably altered the market situation. The expertise of Calyon’s staff and the financial solidity of the Crédit Agricole Group are two significant assets that enable Calyon to identify and seize new opportunities. They also support its position as a major player among capital markets and investment banks.
