Testimony: "Exciting career opportunities within the Group"
Testimony of Fabien Legland, Project manager, Global IT & Operations, New-York.
"Having an engineering background, I developed my problem-solving and performance optimisation skills while working three years for management and IT consulting companies. I finally decided to work for one of our clients, Calyon, within the Global IT & Operations (GIO) department of its US branch."
Can you describe your job various facets?
Being a project manager involves interactions with all the bank’s professions, from front office to back office, from Compliance to Finance. But being a project manager in Calyon Americas also means working with Calyon entities all around the world. This diversity is highly motivating and stimulating. Part of my day-to-day job consists in identifying ways to improve global performance or to reduce operational risk within the GIO department of the Bank. Once identified, I manage the project to bring the idea into being.
What attracted you to Calyon and to your position?
I chose to join the Project Management team in Calyon Americas as I knew I would continue to deepen my knowledge of the industry: the team manager has broad knowledge of the different professions of the corporate and investment bank and is always kind enough to teach me. Furthermore, everyone in Calyon knows his or her job and takes the time to answer my questions, which makes it such a rewarding experience to complete a project.
What secrets of success have you learned for your job?
The most important skills that I would recommend to anyone who wants to become a project manager is to be curious and interested in learning at any time. As a project manager, you always work on several different subjects that you don’t necessarily master. Therefore you have to read documentation and ask questions to build your personal knowledge and be able to complete your assignment. That is why every day as a project manager is unlike the previous one.
In the light of your professional experience, what do you consider to be the characteristics of Calyon?
Like an English corporate culture company, Calyon is a place where you will be given responsibilities if you show you can assume them, no matter how old you are. This confidence in high-potential employees is truly rewarding and highly motivating. I definitely recommend Calyon for everyone who likes professional challenges.
