Testimony : " Calyon is an excellent place to work"

Pieter Welman, works within Natural Resources, Infrastructure and Power team (NIP). He joined Calyon in 2006 from Barclays where he had been an analyst. Prior to that he worked for a retail company where he completed his accountancy training and exams.

What is your background within Calyon?

I joined Calyon in 2006, to work within the finance department. I was then promoted to be responsible for all reporting for the capital markets business in London. Following this, I had been offered the opportunity to join the Structured Commodity Finance team as business manager. It was very exciting for me to be involved on the front office side and to learn the way the business works and how deals are structured and executed. I was recently promoted within the newly formed Natural Resources, Infrastructure and Power team.

Why would you recommend Calyon to your peers?

Calyon is a great place to work for a number of reasons.  Firstly, it offers development opportunities which I believe will be hard to find anywhere else. Secondly, people are empowered from early on which motivates and encourages individuals. Thirdly, the people are very nice and know each other and treat each other with respect. Calyon is an excellent place to work, especially if you are willing to work hard and learn.

What advice could give to the future Calyon professionals?

I think that the most important skill is to want to learn and develop.  I would say that anyone should look to do whatever they can to be involved with as many things as possible.
