Jakub Hoim: "I participate in building the relationship with clients and developing business"

Jakub Hoim, Credit Analyst trainee in the Global Credit Analysis team, explains his role in the Coverage and Investment Banking department in Poland.

What have been your studies and professional experiences prior to your current position?

I obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Finance and Accounting in the Warsaw School of Economics. Then I was completing this degree with a first year of Master studies (also in Finance and Accounting in the same university) when I started working at Crédit Agricole CIB.
Before integrating the Bank, I worked as an analyst at the Deutsche Bank PBC SA in the Credit Risk Management department for the segment of private clients. My duties embraced credit documents analysis and initial credit decisions, which were then revised and approved by a senior analyst. I was also responsible for requests concerning the largest clients; I worked in collaboration with senior analysts and sales support.

What were your motivations for your current job?

I wanted to further develop analytical skills, that is why I decided to switch from the segment of private clients to the segment of corporates. Crédit Agricole CIB offers a demanding international environment and I was aware of the great opportunities for young people in such a global bank.

Can you describe your main responsibilities?

I work in the Coverage department specialised in power engineering, industry and heavy industry. Its scope of missions are building the relationship with clients and developing business.
I am an analyst; my responsibilities include the preparation of credit requests and applications, annual reviews, prospecting in collaboration with market research and the analysis of financial standing of counterparties and their business environment.

What skills and qualities are required for your position?

The requests and applications are analysed by an independent Risk department; you need to be definite, precise and up-to-date with the information presented in the credit sheets. Working with professionals requires being fully-committed to your tasks. You also need to be a team player. And most importantly, you have to like what you do as you spend most of your time at work!

What is your approximate schedule for a normal day of work?

Throughout the day, I check press and newsletters in order to find potential business opportunities and to be up-to-date with the market situation. I do it everyday.

Apart from that, I prepare credit applications, which take almost all of my time. I am also responsible for administration work within the department: it is necessary to monitor the business relations and the performance of our clients. Sometimes, I take part in professional trainings regarding businesses, legal aspects of business and banking, compliance and policies.
