Alexis Rafidison: "My role is to identify the needs of the Bank's clients"

Alexis Rafidison, corporate relationship manager at the French Regions Department (Lille), examines his work at Crédit Agricole CIB from the perspective of a former high-level athlete.

How did you first get to know Crédit Agricole CIB?

In 2005, at the "Forum Entreprises" organised by my school, EM Lyon, I met Crédit Agricole CIB representatives and discussed with them the opportunities available to recent graduates. After this initial contact, the position of corporate relationship manager really attracted my attention and, as a result, I joined Crédit Agricole CIB in 2006.

What does your job entail?

I am responsible for a portfolio of corporate clients with sales ranging from EUR 100 million to EUR 2 billion.
One of my responsibilities is to develop relationships with clients based on mutual trust. To do that, I must understand the challenges and strategies of each of them and identify their needs in terms of advisory and financial services.
My other responsibility is to monitor the counterparty risk involved with these clients. I am therefore led to play an active role in risk management.
In-house, I have to organise and structure my sales approach around Crédit Agricole CIB’s business lines (Fixed Income Markets, Mergers & Acquisitions, Structured Finance, Global Loan Syndication and Equity Capital Markets) in order to make customised proposals to clients. I work for and in strong cooperation with the Crédit Agricole Group‘s Regional Banks.

What have you learned from this initial experience?

As a former high-level athlete, I had to make important decisions in order to meet the challenges I set for myself. There is a lot of similarity with my responsibilities as a corporate relationship manager.
This initial experience has enabled me to initiate and develop relationships with high-level contacts. In addition, it involves being self-reliant in terms of assignments and proposals and, lastly, satisfies my intellectual curiosity on a daily basis.

How does the Bank assist recent graduates?

Crédit Agricole CIB builds a true corporate culture over the course of the years by broadly involving recent graduates. Very early on the Bank entrusts them with real responsibilities while at the same time providing supervision.
